Just know you are getting what you paid for.....
In general, with Telescopes you get what you pay for. Is it good for beginners? Well, I am not sure what that really means because if you are a beginner and you want to find celestial objects in the sky you would actually want to go with a telescope that has a larger magnification, and a star finder motor that actually after calibration will find the objects you want to look at via some-kind of interface. So, for beginners you would actually want to invest in a more expensive telescope with all the bells and whistles. That way as your interest grows, you grow into the upgraded features. If you are looking for a low-med grade just to pull out for something to do when the Grand kids come, or for a camping activity then this is what you are looking for. Another thing to note is that the horizontal and vertical locking mechanisms on the tri-pod slip no matter how tight you make them. Now, the main reason I deducted two stars from this telescope is because I purchased a new one, and received what looks to be a mixed used and new telescope. The main canister appears to be new, but one lens the 25mm, and the Bluetooth remote for your smartphone was defiantly used. The lens has signs of wear and the remote had fingerprints, surface showed ware and scratches, and was missing the batter tab that you are supposed to remove for first use.I have already had this same issue from third party sellers this year, and Amazon is really only there to make sure you 1. Obtain a return label. 2. Obtaining your refund. As you have to deal directly with the seller.

It works, but we probably wouldn't buy it again
Update. I was surprised to receive a message from the seller offering me money to remove this review. I don't know if that's a common practice on Amazon, but I wrote the review after multiple evenings on the lawn with my kids and it is what it is. Looking at other reviews, it appears there are a number of telescopes being reviewed under one listing. All have very different capabilities and price points. Simply sharing as I appreciate the opinion and experience of others before dropping $150.--------First off-it works. You can see the moon clearly, and you can get some clarity on other planets. The controls on the tripod are cheap though, and the stability is so-so. On a breezy evening, you'll be hard pressed to get a clear view of anything as it will be shaking. The spotting scope is also reversed...so know that if you're trying to find an object, you need to move it opposite of what you are seeing. All that said, it does in fact work. For a kid, it's exciting to have a first telescope. If we were buying again though...we would probably shop local or find one that is a bit sturdier.Oh, and the cell phone holder has no way to actually attach to the eyepiece.

Extremely cheaply made. Not worth $100.00
This telescope is a giant hunk of junk. The metal plastic combo is ridiculous as you can't ever get it tightened enough that it doesn't constantly move or drop when you get something in sight. The instructions are very poorly written. They literally only tell you how to put it together which was easy enough. No details about which lens to use for what or anything. We couldn't even get a decent sight of the stars on a totally clear night at over 9000 feet elevation. During the day, we could see decently but couldn't ever get a crisp image. The sight scope is so crooked you can't even use it to get an idea of where you're looking. We purchased this for our 6 year old son who is very interested in learning about the stars and planets. This one didn't cut the mustard. Will be looking elsewhere for a decent beginner telescope.

Perfect gift for my Grandchildren.
I always wanted one when I was young but wasn't able to afford it.

don't buy this telescope
This was a suppose to be a fun Christmas present for my wife to look at stars here in Vegas, but, after opening the box they left out the adjustable stand, the most expensive part of this telescope for sure, should be rated 10 years and down, for (beginners) could be for any age. This works almost as good as my free binoculars I received at a casino giveaway.

Great telescope for beginners
This telescope is easy to setup and use without any prior experience with telescopes. It took me 15 minutes to setup, and within 30 minutes I could spot Jupiter with its moon. I could even spot faint band on Jupiter with the 5mm eye lens. The next night I could spot Saturn with its rings ! The only negative about this product is the cell phone adapter does not seem to work for me. It is too small to wrap around the eye piece.

Don’t waste your money.
After many people have messed with this we have decided it is junk. Never been able to get it to focus to see anything in the night sky. I can see the moon better with my binoculars. Should have returned this as soon as we purchased. Not worth $20 much less 100.
