The Song Remains the Same 2018

Led Zeppelin at MSG.
I received the cd in a very timely fashion. I highly recommend the seller. I originally had the original, pared down version, of The Song Remains The Same. That album is excellent but this one, with more of the songs included, kicks it up even higher. Great album!

Astonishingly good on vinyl
When I decided to get into the vinyl side of audiophilia last year, I had the studio albums already thanks to Jimmy's remastering project. I wondered about getting this vinyl set. After all, I had the Bluray and, having extracted the hi-res audio, could enjoy that at any time. But when Amazon Warehouse Deals had it for $80, I couldn't pass it up. That's just $20 an LP. Man, am I glad I did. While fanatics like me know that the gigs used for TSRTS are somewhat average compared to the best bootlegs, this is still an important live document, made even better when the full concert was finally released in 2007. Yeah, the original, unedited "No Quarter" is still the best, but what can you do about that? And on vinyl, it just sounds tremendous. I don't know how Jimmy got all 29 minutes of "Dazed and Confused," onto a side of vinyl, but he did. Great quality release. So glad to have a copy,

My favorite from Led Zeppelin
We all have favorites I'm sure but this soundtrack from the film is one of those that I plug-in and play all day long. Love it!

Only half of the double album.
The sound quality of this old cassette is still excellent, bringing back memories of when I owned the vinyl double album in high school. The only thing wrong with this purchase -- is that it only contained one half of the double album -- there was only one cassette included, and thus only two sides out of the original four. I would be entirely justified in returning it for a refund, since I thought I was purchasing the complete double album, but, considering the good sound quality of the cassette, plus the fact that it contained my two favorite sides of the original album (the sidelong, 23-minute "Dazed and Confused," plus Side Four, containing the extended drum solo on "Moby-Dick") -- plus the fact that the tape only cost $5.81, which is about the cost of an average, used, single cassette (or even less), I will keep it, and enjoy it for what it is, satisfied that I still received my money's worth.

Hear the Ocean's Roar
Led Zeppelin in 1973 towards the end of their "Houses of the Holy" tour. That is the year when and one the first albums I purchased when I received my first stereo music system and a great year in music it was to do so. For a sample from this 2-disc cd, try disc one, tracks 4-6. "Over the Hills and Far Away', "Misty Mountain Hop", "Since I've Been Loving You". Wow. Zeppelin may have been fatigued towards the end of the tour but I'm not going to quibble about epic live versions of these classics. If you want to, that's your business.

Much better than a lot of people give it credit for...
For years, I had heard a lot of negative reviews for TSRTS, and upon actually buying the album I could never understand why.No doubt, the movie version of this concert was flawed, with the poor decision to film "fantasy sequences" and add other backstage footage that had nothing to do with the actual concert. It's always been my contention that if the movie had been shot as a straight-up concert film--without all the extracurricular nonsense--it would have been received better. But all that aside, the CD version of "Song" is free of all the sideshow aspects of this concert & we can just focus on the music--which is what Zeppelin should be all about anyway. The only negative aspect of this concert that I can think of is that Robert's voice sounds a bit rough--no doubt a result of the heavy touring that Zep was doing during this time period. The other members of the band--Jimmy, JPJ and Bonzo, are all in fine form however. How much of that fine form being a credit to Jimmy Page's post-production skills might be another issue of debate, but to my ears, it's hard to imagine their being better renditions of "Dazed and Confused", "Stairway to Heaven", "The Rain Song", or Jimmy's blistering solo from "No Quarter."Of course, fans who have great experience with Zeppelin bootlegs will no doubt say there are better concerts out there to be heard & I would agree with that to a degree, but "The Song Remains the Same" was hardly the embarrassment many people--including the band themselves--have made it out to be.At least, not the CD version, where you can take in the music & not worry about any "fantasy sequences."5 stars
