Follow instructions, excellent product
Excellent product. Used these HAND warmers in our gloves AND SHOES on a very cold Alaska vacation. They do take a bit of time to fully warm up (as stated in instructions) but I promise you if you read the instructions and shake them up properly these suckers get pretty dang toasty - and they stay warm for a long time. Once we got off of the cruise ship I gathered the used ones and put them in my backpack and later I was surprised at how much heat I could feel radiating from them against my back. Walking around I was like, what the heck is so freaking hot in my bag?? Oh, it's the warmers, wow! I'm surprised they're still so hot! Lol, true story, hope this review helps.

Novelty not solution
First of all these warmers take a long time to get going (at least 20-30 minutes it seems). Then they don't do much though maybe, just maybe they do get to over 120F for a while. But when pressed to flesh, the heat, as one should expect, dissipates quickly. It is a far cry from warming one's hands over a campfire or something which quickly generates continuous heat.I used them in near-freezing conditions. They barely did anything. I think I needed 2 per hand, not just one. After they get depleted, they are heavy. So for backpacking use (my number one need), they are not good. It's exactly like carrying around little bags of sand. Maybe it is OK to cut them open (they won't tear open) and scatter the used grains on the ground? Dunno; might be toxic. If not, it would be a pain to carry all that dead weight around. If I had needed in REAL cold, like into the teens and lower, I think these warmers would be pretty much worthless. In a word, they are an interesting novelty but they do NOT solve the problem as I see it.
