Gloria

I have loved this film ever since it first debuted. This film is where I was introduced to and fell in love with the acting genius and the woman we call Gena Rowlands who was not only the wife but the muse of John Cassavetes the late famous director! This film is so perfect and I ordered it to own today in SD and to tell you the truth it looks like it was made yesterday! The film has held up in Tip Top form and being as how I have watched it so many times, it always feels like the first time every time if you know what I mean. I cannot believe that Sharon Stone whom I'm sure I do not have to explain, actually had the balls to do a remake of this film a few years back and I never had a desire to see the film and those that I trust in told me don't bother she had nothing to add to Gloria and personally I can say from her Motion Picture credits to date, I think that her even making a remake of Gloria after it was done perfectly by the wife of John Cassavities there is simply no way to top her performance and she was the original. The movie is phenomenal she is phenomenal and even the little boy is phenomenal! I actually have a lady who I call my other mother because that is what she is like to me, and the thing that gives us both a giggle is that she is Gloria! If ever there was a real life person who was ever the personification of the character of Gloria, it is my friend V! She is so classy and so tough and she has never bowed down to anyone in her lifetime! If she's not running the show then no dice baby no dice! I trust we shall have Miss Rowlands for a few extra years at least because she is just the classiest and the most wonderful person and actress that one comes upon only once in a lifetime if they are fortunate at that! Make sure you also see her performance in The Skeleton Key because she is in her element in that movie and it is not a Gore film but a horror movie done very very well by a bunch of classy people! Just read the list of actors and you will know what I mean! Okay, now it's your turn to see the movie and I trust you shall enjoy it even one iota of how much I have enjoyed it through the years because, she's the best and it's the best and she was robbed of an academy award that year by Sally Field whom I love as well for her starring role in the motion picture Norma Rae. May God bless you all and your loved ones and that goes for all the four-legged furry ones as well the Supreme Being put them on this planet before he put us on it and I don't mean to say he is in God has to be a man, for I see God as all of our Heavenly parent. Man woman adult child God is all incompassing in my version but that is up to everybody to stay true to their own versions and I honor that in everybody. Life ain't easy, unfortunately I have learned that lesson all too well and the only thing I can say about that is that when I leave the building this time, you won't see me reincarnating on this planet anymore and that is a for sure! Trust me, I have paid my dues and done my time on planet Earth over and over and over and it's time for something a little more special for me and, in all humility and humbleness I must say, it is my turn! Take care of yourselves and each other. It's the only thing we can do to help at this point. Blessed Be to each and all, oh, I almost forgot to wish you all love and that is very important and it's the most powerful force known in creation itself. I love you, whoever you are whatever you are I can assure you that I've already prayed for you today and not only you but your loved ones as well. Now I don't want an award or anything for this but I just want you to know that somebody out here actually cares which sadly has become a thing of the past as well for a rarity if you will. This is a classic!!!

I REMEMBER THIS MOVIE 🎥 WHEN I WAS IN MY 20'S, I ALWAYS LOVED THIS MOVIE 🎥, AND I ALWAYS WANTED IT ON DVD 📀 OR BLU-RAY 💙, I ORDERED IT AND IT WAS JUST GOOD 👍 WHEN I 1ST WATCHED IT OVER 30 YEARS AGO, GENA ROWLINGS PLAYS A FANTASTIC ROLE 👏 AND WAS A VERY OVER LOOKED ACTRESS AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTICED, I SAY BUY THIS MOVIE 🎥 AND YOU WONT BE SORRY

Well directed and the actors are great, Gena Rowlands and the little boy in the movie John Adames made a great performance in this movie.This movie is great, one of my favorite movies.

Looks really good and it's not a 4K disc. But it look like 4K on a 4K projector. A must have for film enthusiast.

A wonderful Cassavetes-Rowland film. I have seen it 4 o5 times. It is that appealing. But alas, all those viewings have dropped my rating from a 5 to a 4.

This is a gritty, fast paced story of a former party girl who winds up with a child she has no desire to care for let alone knowing how. Gena Rowlands is nothing less than brilliant. I know this is an "old' flick and Sharon Stone did a remake of it. That wasn't bad but it pales in comparison to this the original version.You really will do yourself a favor by renting this movie. You won't be disappointed.

One of my favourite movies finally gets treatment that it deserves. Great transfer. Colours pop and detail in picture is the best I have seen in this movie. New york never looked more dirty, grimy and beautiful. It's not perfect, some dark scenes are still tough to resolve. But this is the best version of this underrated classic.Well done KL. Now, how about one of your excellent 4k Dolby vision transfers ?...

Though a very sad story, it is a delight to watch throughout and want to watch again with all my friends!

Gena Rowlands in ihrer ausdrucksstärksten Rolle. Wer sich unfreiwillig mit der Mafia anlegt, hat nichts zu lachen. Gena Rowlands als Gloria weiss ja auch mit wem sie es hier zu tun kriegt, immerhin war sie lange Zeit die Braut von einem der oberen Bosse. Diese Mörder schrecken natürlich auch nicht davor zurück ein kleines Kind zu erschiessen.Dafür müssen sie allerdings erstmal an der sarkasmusfreudigen Gloria vorbei und die hat selber einen geladenen 6 Schüsser in ihrer Handtasche. Auf High Heels nimmt das 2 Stunden Flucht-Drama von Ehemann John Cassavetes geschrieben und furios inszeniert seinen Lauf.Dabei betont Gloria am Anfang, dass sie Kinder nicht ausstehen kann, was sich im Laufe des Filmes aber ändern soll. Ein zeitloser Klassiker mit einigen drastischen Szenen und einer nicht mehr ganz so jungen Gena Rowlands in absoluter Bestform.Jahre später gab es ein Remake mit Sharon Stone, die aber nicht Ansatzweise an die schauspielerischen Qualitäten einer Gena Rowlands heranreicht. Klassiker bleibt eben Klassiker. 5 klare bleihaltige Sterne!

Revoir ce film après si longtemps , quelle expérience et quelle joie ! dans mon lointain souvenir d'étudiant , j'étais resté pétrifié , dans la salle de cinéma , par la violence des débuts du film : et je crois qu'il faut y revenir , sur ce massacre de cette famille du comptable de la Mafia par les hommes de main de ses employeurs ...Oui , il faut regarder attentivement cela : après des plans majestueux sur NY , le resserrement de la caméra sur un immeuble peu reluisant , l'arrivée des bourreaux , types médiocres , employés du crime , avec le chef suant et bedonnant , qui est venu faire son job et que d'autres jobs sinistres appelleront à d'autres bouts de NY , la sortie des outils de travail que sont les armes , la montée de l'escalier , la famille qui se replie dans les pièces en attendant , résignée , sa mise à mort , comme à l'abattoir , puis le carnage qu'ion ne voit pas , les coups de feu des fusils à canon scié : a t-on vu souvent , avec une telle densité angoissante , la violence totalement obscène de la mort administrée aux autres ?Cette aisance souveraine , nous la retrouverons quelques minutes plus tard , lorsque Gloria va liquider les occupants d'une voiture de la Mafia , venue tuer les survivants ...je l'ai revue plusieurs fois, cette scène : c'est impeccable et c'est du grand art : elle dégaine , elle tire , elle tire encore en poursuivant la voiture , des corps s 'effondrent , la voiture se renverse , tout cela dure quelques secondes !Donc , Cassavetes comme maître de l'accélération foudroyante , du paroxysme , de la caméra hyper- nerveuse , du cinéma " à l'os " , qui pourrait donner la leçon aux spécialistes du film d'action dans ce film qui n'est qu'une histoire de fuite , sans issue ... voir aussi la scène dans le buffet de la gare où , tout d'un coup , Gloria fond littéralement sur une table de mafieux , une banale commande de café à peine passée ...Cassavetes , dans ce film censément grand public et plus accessible , renverse avec délectation les codes : Gloria a bien bien plus de courage et se montre bien plus virile que les soi-disant durs de la Mafia , qu'elle humilie avec grand plaisir : " the tough guy " , c'est elle !Et puis , cette séquence hallucinante , vers la fin , où elle tente un dernier marchandage auprès des patrons , en l'occurence un boss de la Mafia , ex amant ... ce dialogue apparemment apaisé , où , en fait , elle a en face d'elle la Mort en personne , courtoise et désolée ... sa dernière fuite par l'ascenseur , alors que les révolvers et les fusils tonnent et une fin totalement ouverte : n'oublions pas que ce film réaliste et cru est aussi une fable poignante sur la rencontre d'une femme dure et d'un petit bout de garçon , frisé et culotté ... comme dans ces scènes magnifiques , sur le trottoir , toutes de mouvement , véritable ballet urbain , où la femme mûre et le gamin se rapprochent , s'éloignent , se perdent , se retrouvent ....Gena Rowlands fut une actrice considérable mais elle était , je pense , bien trop forte , intelligente , libre et indépendante pour supporter les règles d'Hollywood ...heureusement , son mari lui donna des rôles de rêve !
