Not that good
An absolute ergonomic nightmare! Get the pistol grip style. These have a strong grip, but only if you're positioned perfectly.

poor design won't pick up many objects
Do yourself a favor. Buy a grabber with a pistol grip and suction cups. This one stinks. It won't hold onto anything well. I pick something up and before I get it halfway to me it drops the load. And it goes on like that time after time. I dropped my cane a few minutes ago. It took 5 tries to get it picked up and pulled to me. I've owned several different grabbers that were pistol grip and used suction cups. I can pick a dime up off a flat surface floor with the good ones. I Ihought I'd try one of these to see if I was missing anything. I was. A hard time. This design is not very good.

Love love love!!!
I love this grabber!!! It is very strong and very sturdy!!! I have used it daily since purchased 2 years ago. It is still working great!!! It is so very handy and much better than the grabbers they send you home with after knee replacement surgery. Do not hesitate to buy this grabber. I waited so long to post a review because I was sure I would break it somehow. Nope! I have had able-bodied adult friends remark on how useful it is! They want one too! A few times I did something to it that made the two sides of the claw not align correctly. It was very easy to bed back into shape!!! My 5yo and 3yo love it too! They use it to get things done from their closets or the pantry. The magnetic part works great, but is only on one side of the claw if that makes a difference to anyone. The only improvement I made was I added the soft part of velcro tape to the grabber and the hook part of the tape on my scooter so I could stick it to the scooter easily. Works great! You won't regret it.

Disappointed
This is the second of these I have purchased, the first being from a home improvement store. I used the first one for several years, roughly at times and it held up impressively well. Alas, the rubber covers on the end wore off and I decided to replace it; Off to Amazon where I found the exact same item, I thought. Indeed this new one is identical in every way but one, and that one is the most important part, the grippers. This new unit does have the same rubber covers, but the "claw" for lack of a better word, are made from some cheaper, soft metal that are the originals. They bend with very little pressure. They BEND!! The working end BENDS. What genius came up with this idea, to replace a perfectly good, if not exceptional, product with a POS... I would return it, but then I would have nothing, Maybe I can get the rubber grips off the new one and put them on the old one....

Requires a lot of strength
I just got this today, but I already dislike it for what I need it for. But first, it seems very well built. The aluminum shaft and metal pincers give the impression that it will last a long time, what you would expect when it's called Professional. The bad thing is, the grip is quite uncomfortable for grabbing anything that is not on the floor or overhead. Anywhere in the middle requires quite a bit of wrist strength. And holding the grabber out level, the trigger wants to close the jaws just with the weight of the thing. It makes it difficult to grab items off a a table or shelf. This is my third grabber, but the other two are the "pistol grip" type. I like the construction of this one, but the grip is not ideal for people with mobility issues.

Buyer Beware.... It may not work! :(
Received item in a timely manner. Packaging was good. The product.... not so good. The lever or jaws if you want to call them that are stiff and do not spring back open all the way like they should. When I went to return item I was told item was not returnable.About three years ago I had bought one of these, same brand and everything, and it is still working fine. I guess this is one of the downsides of ordering online.

Hard to use.
This is not for people with arthritis in their hands. I bought one for my mother and it is very difficult for her to squeeze the handle to pick up items. I tried it too and it is difficult to squeeze for me. I tried to send it back but Amazon stated it was not returnable.

Adequate With One Major Fault
The one major fault with the Niffy Grabber lies not with its use or consstruction but rather with the inadequate packaging used to ship it. Mine arrived broken in half as do apparently quite of few per reviews given the 48" Grabber. A simple light weight cardboard box is no protection from determined US Postal workers. Rather than returning it and no doubt receive another broken item I managed to round it back into shape and re-enforce the break with PVC tubing and duct tape. The internal cable mechanism managed to survive its shipping onslaught and worked fine.In general the Grabber performs fairly well though as stated the aluminum tubing is light weight. The handle does require a bit of extra squeeze compared to a trigger type, but the rubber covered metal claws will hold and pick up a couple pound object. The built in magnet, though small, will pick up a ring set of house and car keys if you have a ferrous metal key ring or holder. For older folks, remember that being 48" long objects will be leveraged heavier so this may be a factor for you.

Lifesaver with more pros than cons
I broke my ankle and am immobilized for awhile. So I needed another of these great aids. I researched and like the reviews. This is sturdy and I like the reliable rubber grips as well as the shape of the grips for pull bottles, etc. It’s a bit heavy and takes a fair amount of gripping strength for a senior. It might be a problem for a person without a lot of upper body and hand strength. I have another reacher/grabber and like that it pivots so you can change the angle of the grabber but this one doesn’t have that ability. So I’d say it’s pros are it’s sturdiness, shape of grabber and rubber grips. The cons are that the angle can’t be adjusted and (maybe) the weight and strength required to grip and hold it depending on who you are.

best grabber very sturdy well constructed
been through several grabbers, most are not sturdy enough to grab anything of weight or dimension - some are so weak only good for picking up a piece of paper or something - but this Unger Nifty Nabber has a very robust clasping mechanism with heavy duty ridged rubber fingers and strong shaft - highly recommend it

It won't bent when reaching for heavy items.
I like the strength of this product. I actually use this at grocery story to reach my favorite pop which is always on the top shelve and always too far for me to reach. I am all of 5 foot tall. The grabber I used before wasn't up to job of getting pop bootlegs down and bent when I used it for this purpose.

Great for getting clothes out of washer while in a wheelchair
A little too heavy for me because I have arthritis and other issues with my hands. Quite a bit of pressure must be applied to the handle to use it. The angle you have to hold it to easily squeeze the handle is different than most reachers/grabbers so you have to hold it almost horizontal to the ground if you're sitting in a wheelchair to pick up something off the floor. Even that way, it's very painful to bend my wrist like that. Most reachers/grabbers have a trigger style which is easier. But I got this to dig out clothes from a top loading washing machine (my apartment building doesn't have front loaders) so I had to get this type of handle. I hold it vertically and squeeze the handle with my arm straight out (see first photo). However, it's much easier to use it to get something above me because I don't have to bend my wrist downward.

Light, sturdy, strong or gentle grip
This grabber is sturdy - strong enough for picking up jars or cans, fine enough for small pill bottles. Rubber tips make grabbing easier, handle and "trigger" are better design than "gun" style handles. Still light to hold and extend. I bought second one.

Strong and effective
I've purchased other grabbers before that broke after a few falls or could hardly lift any weight. This one is really sturdy, has fallen a few times (accidentally) but got no damage and can lift a good amount of weight, such as my cat's food bowls, which makes life a lot easier! I have bought my second one for the second level of my home. Would definitely recommend to anyone who also needs it for support due to disabilities, it can pick up small items, the magnetic ends come in really handy and it can help with minor tasks suchs as fixing rugs or lifting recycling bags, etc.

Excellent product
This is one of three pick-up tools that I have. It is the one I use every day when picking up trash when walking the dog...why? Because it is the best of the three. If you are intending to use this for trash pick-up, be aware, that for repeated use, it will build up the muscles used for activation. My only complaint was the packaging for shipping. This product was shipped with no packaging period; it looked like it had been taken directly from the display stand, a label stuck on it and put in the mail.

my preferred grabber
we have several grabbers to help my wife who is bedridden. but this is the one I use, especially when things fall between the bed and the wall. its long enough to reach the items and the jaws work well to pick them up.its a little heavy for our 3 year old grandchildren to play with but that's ok with me too.I love it.

Very helpful
I bought this to retrieve dog toys/Kongs from my dog's crate, so I wouldn't have to go crawling in there every day. But I've also found a ton of other uses, gardening, retrieving laundry, getting stuff from high places, grabbing stuff out of the back seat of the car... it's super helpful. I would like it even better if it were just a little lighter, but that might sacrifice quality, so it's fine as is. Very happy with this product.

Arrived Damaged
Bought because of favourable reviews. The unit I purchased arrived with pick up arms bent and the internal pull cord and gears misaligned so that the unit does not function..This made in China tool has rather fragile construction in any case.I am returning.

My second one--highly recommended
I bought this for a friend who recently broke her shoulder. I guess she should be the one reviewing it, except that we bought one for ourselves a couple of years ago, same model, and it is just so handy, indoors and out. We live in a place where the wind regularly blows paper and plastic into our yard. We used to get frustrated about having to lean down and pick up this garbage, but now it is *almost* fun to do.

Heavy Duty Picker Upper
It is a very sturdy grabber. I use it to pick up things I have dropped in places I can't reach ie. Behind the couch I must say it is heavy and can make the arms tired after prolonged use. Definitely worth the price!

Would not recommend
It's a pole .. doesn't grip items that well so I tend to have to use the thing just as a pole that sorta grips and then catch whatever I'm trying to reach. Also the handle is awkward to use and feels clunky. Would not recommend

Quality is poor
Very poor product, had order an Unger reacher a few years ago and it was excellent, this one not so much, the metal on the reacher is very thin and weak, it bends very easily on light items, I tried to use the reacher to push off a sock (had recent hip replacement), the end of the reacher bent and broke off, piece of junk, don't waste your money
